The Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Youth Association is very active and allows youth from Southern Ohio to get together and be a part of a group. Our advisor is Cami Claypool. We have monthly meetings to discuss things like; fundraisers, youth show, and our NYATT team. Our meetings aren’t like any usual meeting either; we usually have dinner and play a game at the beginning of it too!

2014 NYATT Point Standings – 7/10/14

We hold many fundraisers that support our NYATT team and the youth year end awards. One of our main fundraisers is our Youth Show held every year in April. It is a four judge, two day show.

Each year SOQHYA sends a team to compete in the National Youth Activity Team Tournament (NYATT) at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. SOQHYA pays for the entries, a new outfit, and gives monies towards the stall/expenses for each youth.  We place an ad in the Congress Souvenir program in support of our NYATT team and do a team photo at Congress.  It is a great experience and we have fun with it each and every year!

Name: Paulina Martz
Grade & School: I am a sophomore at The Columbus Academy
Hometown: Columbus, OH
Current horse: OnlyTheBestChocolate, Lets Shake Em Up
Events showing in: Western Pleasure, Trail, Performance Halter
Years riding: 4 years
Favorite class to show in: I love Trail the most
Favorite show: I really enjoy the Youth World Show, because you get to meet a lot of people, from all over the country, who love showing and horses as much as you do.  Along with that, I think it’s awesome to compete with the best of the best.  It challenges you like no other show.
Other interests: I am very involved in my school’s Dramatic Arts program.  I perform as well as work backstage.  I also take Piano and Voice lessons.
Greatest accomplishment: Winning the Performance Halter Mares at the Youth World this past year.  I put a lot of hard work into my class and was very proud of the work my horse, OnlyTheBestChocolate, and I accomplished.
Favorite movie: Thats tough because I’m a movie geek. My favorite genres include action/fantasy and comedy.
Favorite type of music: Both show tunes and alternative/pop music, but I really love all types.
Interesting Fact About You: Even though I look very much like my parents, I was adopted at 18 months from Albania.  Also, I have an irrational fear of birds.
Who is your hero and why: A hero is hard to pick, but I would like to have the ability to help as many people as Mother Teresa, a fellow Albanian.
